Winter Sports
The snowy winter landscape invites you to go outside and enjoy winter fun with the family. Vrchlabí is perfect for the winter season. Whether you love skiing or prefer a walk around a frozen pond, you’ll find plenty of activities and destinations to choose from
Skiing in Vrchlabí
There are a total of 4 ski resorts in Vrchlabí, categorized by difficulty. Both beginners and advanced skiers can enjoy skiing here. We recommend Kněžický vrch, which also has a children’s center and sledding areas. If you want to combine skiing with a visit to the highest hill, head to Herlíkovice. The cable car takes you to Žalý hill, where you will find a lookout tower and a restaurant near the top station of the cable car. The big advantage is the connection of the Herlíkovice ski area with the family-friendly Ski Bubákov, where the slopes are oriented to the south, allowing for almost all-day sunshine.
You can reach the cable car directly from the parking lot with a connecting cable car, which will be appreciated by both young and older skiers.
Cross-Country Trails
For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, there are kilometers of regularly groomed trails. These include the trails around Kačák pond in the Vejsplachy area, on the southern edge of the town. There are also competitive cross-country trails and other trails leading to Horní and Dolní Branná, Valteřice, and Kněžice, and further through Benecko to Horní Mísečky. Tourist cross-country skiing trails also start above the town park towards Lánov or Strážné.
A specialty of Vrchlabí is a 3.5 km circuit around the football stadium, which is artificially lit and snowed. Vrchlabí thus offers almost 35 km of regularly groomed cross-country skiing trails.
